The Marathon - Athens Performance Art Workshop at Booze Cooperativa facilitated alongside Dagmar I. Glausnitzer Smith, PASHIAS & Francesco Kiais

17th September 2015
At the Edge of Knowing - Live performance at Booze Cooperativa

Interdisciplinary, multi-sensory and often site and context responsive, Alexandra Zierle (Germany) & Paul Carter’s (UK) practice spans through performance and live art, video, sound, installation, and photography. Through their collaborative practice, Zierle & Carter critically examine different modes of communication, addressing notions of belonging, dynamics within relationships, and the transformation of limitations. Their work sites an embodied investigation into human interactions and encounters, acting as an invitation to venture into the spaces in-between the external and internal, permanent and transient, spoken and unheard.

Their work has been exhibited internationally throughout Europe, Canada, United States, South America, Australia, Asia and Africa, in venues such as the Federation Square in Melbourne, Grace Exhibition Space in New York, Rapid Pulse in Chicago, and the inaugural "Venice International Performance Art Week". Zierle & Carter have twice received an Arts Council England grant, including support for a residency at the Banff Centre in Canada, whilst they will present a new commission for this year’s "SPILL Festival of Performance". The duo will collaborate for the first time with epitelesis - Performance Art Foundation as leaders of performance art workshop "The Marathon" in Athens.

Transplant - Impromptu public performance at the square of Academy of Athens

Transplant - Impromptu public performance in the event "ASFA BBQ: Bodies that resist" at the Athens School of Fine Arts

Argentine born of Catalan-Bolivian descent, Hector Canonge is an interdisciplinary artist, curator and cultural entrepreneur based in New York City. His work incorporates the use of new-media technologies, physical environments, cinematic and performance art narratives to explore and treat issues related to the construction of identity, gender roles, territoriality and politics of migration. Canonge's performances mediate movement, endurance, ritualistic processes, and public interaction, as rooted in his theoretical concept of "corporealidad (corpo-reality)" where "corpo (body)" is the instrument and platform for artistic creation, transforming a specific reality or experience into ‘territory’.

His work has been exhibited and presented in the United States, Latin America, Europe and Asia, whilst initiating cultural projects such as "ARTerial Performance Lab", an initiative to foster collaboration amongst performance artists from the America and "Performeando", a program that focuses on featuring Hispanic performance artists living in the USA and Europe. Canonge is also the founder of QMAD (Queens Media Arts Development), a non-profit arts organization in Queens, and his practice has been reviewed by various media agencies, such as The New York Times, ART FORUM, Art in America, and the New York Daily News.

epitelesis presents... Dagmar I. Glausnitzer Smith - Live Performances

9th October 2014
Paper Walks, Paper Talks, No. 4 - Live performance at the Artwall - Project Space

10th October 2014
Agrostis Roles - Live performance at the Artwall - Project Space

Through her investigation into several aspects of collecting objects and by means of 'performance for the camera', the visual artist Dagmar I. Glausnitzer-Smith  (Germany/UK) examines the re-collection of past ideas and images, voice and autobiography. The understanding of ‘self’ is presented as portraiture in a two-dimensional layer.  Photographic images reflect a temporary 'trueness' to the artist’s enquiry and inventive methods to re-position herself in the world of life occurrences and the notion of 'witnessing'.

After graduating in London from the Royal College of Art and Goldsmiths' College, Glausnitzer-Smith completed a two-year Picker Fellowship at Kingston University in 2003 and returned to Germany, organizing performance art workshops and exhibitions with "kunstwirkstoff" and the international exhibition as event "transitstation" in London, Berlin, Edinburgh and Copenhagen (2003-10).  The artist has presented live actions and exhibitions in the USA, Germany, France, Scotland, Denmark and Cyprus. Glausnitzer-Smith participated with epitelesis - Performance Art Foundation in the exhibition "The in-Tension" at Beton7 Gallery in Athens, continuing in its second edition at Institut Supérieur des Beaux Arts de Besançon in France.

epitelesis presents... Fausto Gracia - Public Performance & Video Screening

24th June 2014
Public performance starting at the ground floor of CAMP (Contemporary Art Meeting Point), continuing in Kotzia Square and Athinas Street

Video screening of documentation from Gracia’s public performances at CAMP’s ground floor during the day

The search of movement, simplicity and visual poetry are some of the characteristics of Fausto Gracia’s practice, born in Queretaro - Mexico, 1984. Gracia’s constant quest of finding ways for communication and interaction with others, has led him to the use of streets or the urban landscape, as the most suitable context for his actions. His work can be approached as a reflection on social issues and conditions, arising through visual poetry as a subtle gesture towards an audience that is encouraged to interact and react with the artist.

Since 2008, Gracia’s work focuses on performance processes and explores the relationship of the moving body, through his encounters with the space, time and context, as an exploration of simplicity and the ‘human poetics’. He has participated in international festivals of performance in Canada, Mexico, USA, Guatemala, Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Dominican Republic and Brazil, acquiring the Scholarship Fund for Culture and the Arts in Mexico (Category: Young Artists 2012) and completing artist residencies in Chile
("Proyecto Morada") and Argentina ("Invisible") in 2013.

epitelesis presents... BBB Johannes Deimling - Lecture & Live Performance

16th May 2014
Notes on Performance Art - Lecture at the Athens School of Fine Arts

17th May 2014
Herostrat - Live performance with PASHIAS in Beton7’s event "v_ideas, performances"

To present complex contents, situations and moments in a simple and elementary way is a signature of the art of BBB Johannes Deimling, born in Andernach - Germany and currently living in Norway. The term 'Performance Art Povera' could be used to describe Deimling’s work, in terms of intersections that inspire and provoke his approach to the perception of aesthetics, concept and content. The 'acted images (agierteBilder)' of the artist are initially created as a purely visual construct, but gradually access to all senses in order to create a holistic view on the banalities of everyday life, with all its changes.

For over 15 years, Deimling invests much of his artistic research into the teaching and learning of performative processes. In 2008, he founded the independent educational and artistic project PAS | Performance Art Studies, holding festivals, studies and events on performance globally. Since 2012, he holds the position of associate Professor for Performance Art at NTA - Norwegian Theatre Academy at the Østfold University College. For 2013-14, Deimling participated with epitelesis - Performance Art Foundation in the exhibition "The in-Tension" at Beton7 Gallery in Athens, continuing in its second edition at Institut Supérieur des Beaux Arts de Besançon
in France.

"I consider my work to be the process of finding relations to and experimenting with verbs, poetry, sound, video (…) interactivity and multimedia are at the center of what I do. In mastering contemporary technology, when useful, and exploring the theories these technologies present in the field of art today, I like to envision multiple scenarios concerning the relation to space, to dialogue and to the
body." - V.V.

Performance art, visual art, writing, theoretic research and poetic construction pushed to its boundaries, can be used as terms to describe Michel Collet’s work. Collet oversaw the creation of Vo Vox - a disparate group of people whose loose connections are mediated and enhanced by poetry, as well as a network of sound compositions such as "La Communion des saints" - a piece for one voice that could be called a litany. Founder of Utomobile Club Charles Fourier, Collet is also noted for his work with the collective Montagne Froide/Cold Mountain and he is the curator of the event Blago Bung in New York.

Collet has collaborated with a number of organisations in France, such as Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris and Musée d'Art Contemporain in Lyon. He has been involved with various festivals and institutions in the USA, such as the Emily Harvey Foundation, the Bowery Poetry Club and the Time Shadows Festival in New York, whilst his work has also been showcased in Canada, Poland, Italy and Spain.
